HUGE thanks to Media House Global's Fagun Furia, who came through with a really interesting project. A documentary that pulled back the curtain on a community that never gets talked about. THEN, giving us the opportunity to sit down with a first time director, but experienced storyteller, to really get into what it took to gain trust and shine a light on these individuals and the legacy of their community!!! The beauty of expansive, long-form conversation, is that it can really get under the skin of topics many just skate over, and demystify preconceived notions. So when Falco's Imani Charles came with the opportunity to speak with Maya Annik Bedward about her feature directorial debut, which was dealing with topics & notions not normally discussed, of course we were eager to get that done! And what an interesting, expansive confab was had. Maya was incredibly open about the whole process, giving her entire team their flowers and talking about Haiti & Vodou with so much care, and passion, it was clear she was truly meant to shine a light on these topics! Today was all thanks to Susan Engel, who really does come with the full spread of projects! This one is a really interesting reflection on time, memory, and how we process things. The poignant visuals and story make a lot of sense when you consider today's guest's background and myriad talents in the realm of storytelling. We were able to get into his latest film, the origin, the process of adapting the Short, finding those growth moments, as well as touching upon his journey through sound and play!
