The learning & insight continues, as the magnifier shifts to the climate for this continuation of the @EchoChamberFP ‘400’ jamboree!
Thanks to Sophie Toumazis & Marcello Aisoni at TPR, for ‘Part Five’ we have a documentary that came about from the screening of another documentary (it makes sense, trust me!) and shines a light not just on climate change, but also the machine that is COP (Conference of the Parties). We also had the pleasure of sitting down with the director and getting his insightful (and self deprecating) take on the conference, filmmaking and the impact that could be made!!!
'Colossal Wreck' is written & directed by Josh Appignanesi. With his innocuous selfie-stick, Josh moves unnoticed through Dubai’s seductive slickness and comes face to face with the irony of an oil baron hosting this last-chance climate saloon in a techno-utopian leisure city built in a burning desert.

Josh Appignanesi is a writer/director based in London. His latest feature film is the autofictional relationship comedy HUSBAND, directed with Devorah Baum and premiering In Competition at Edinburgh 2022. Previously, his surrealist psychothriller FEMALE HUMAN ANIMAL (2018) premiered at Sheffield Doc/Fest, starring and co-devised with the novelist Chloe Aridjis. He also made THE NEW MAN, the acclaimed feature documentary, also with Devorah Baum.
He directed the award-winning comedy feature THE INFIDEL, starring Omid Djalili, Richard Schiff, Matt Lucas, Miranda Hart and Archie Panjabi, scripted by David Baddiel. His debut feature was psychological drama SONG OF SONGS (Rotterdam, London, Edinburgh award winner) starring Natalie Press, and co-written with Jay Basu.
He co-wrote Sarah Jessica Parker rom-com ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME and makes shorts, music videos, and commercials, having worked with talent including John Malkovich, David Tennant, Tom Hiddleston, Sara Kestelman and Michelle Dockery, and collaborating with artist Martin Creed among others. He mentors, advises and teaches internationally for institutions including the London Film School, the Met Film School, Guardian Masterclasses, Film London and Roehampton University.
