Craig Thorpe is a Leeds-based writer, director, producer, and script consultant who has been working on self-funded projects since 2018, starting with a 15 second horror that was made for the Raindance micro-horror competition that October. He then followed up this short with another quick turnaround challenge for the Raindance 1 Minute Heartache in February 2019. Two more 60 second horrors followed in October 2019 before production was starting on an intense, short film in March 2020. The lockdowns affected production and scheduling but Craig was able to oversee completion of the 25 minute psychological family drama, Sobriety, in January 2023.
In between Sobriety shoots, Craig worked around lockdown restrictions and started production on another low budget, self-funded short The Dentist's Tale, a dark comedy focusing on the 1 out of 10 dentists who don't recommend their company's product and the life of persecution they face. This film has won multiple awards, including 'Best Smartphone Short' at the 39th edition of the Vesuvius International Film Festival.
Craig went freelance as a script reader and consultant in 2020 and began working with regional scriptwriting competitions before reading for BAFTA Rocliffe on their Film and TV script categories. He is currently rebranding and relaunching Green Witch Films’ script database so it becomes a hub for new writers to learn and develop their writing craft.
Craig has also worked as a background actor in Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Fackham Hall, A Woman of Substance, and All Creatures Great and Small.
