This week we started off with some fantastical horror from the deep via ChampDog Films & ITN Distribution. Some light relief comes from having to go back to high school thanks to Entertainment, All Things Comedy, American High, Drive True Productions, Freshman Year, Myriad Entertainment, Strawdogs Productions, Swindle Pictures, Hulu. AT the cinema an animated classic transitions to live action thanks to Walt Disney Pictures, Seven Bucks Productions, Flynn Picture Co, 5000 Broadway Productions, Walt Disney Studios. AND, we have a new entry in a beloved horror franchise that will chill your bones as it burns those that challenge it via New Line Cinema, Screen Gems, Ghost House Pictures, Warner Bros. 'Mermaid vs Shark' (aka 'Sharks vs Mermaids') is the feature directorial debut from Lily Mellor, written by C.M. Wright. A shark attack survivor transforms into a shark-human hybrid each full moon. He battles flesh-eating mermaids (Atlanta Moreno, Ianthe Bathurst, Myriam Laurent) for beach territory while one mermaid (Karolina Knight) and the were-shark develop feelings.
'Never Change!' is directed by Marty Schousboe, and written by John Reynolds. In 2008, the graduating class (Sofia Black-D'Elia, John Reynolds, Gary Richardson, Jo Firestone, Roberta Colindrez, Carmen Christopher, John Early, Patti Harrison, Steve Little, Ayden Mayeri, Rudy Pankow, Nate Varonne, Matt Barats, Billy Bryk, Zach Cherry, Joe Cunningham, Ana Fabrega, Scott Nelson, Nick Mestad, Nathan Min) of North Meadows High School had their senior year cut short due to a disastrous tornado. Now in their mid-30s, they’re being forced to return home and finish high school once and for all.
'The Outer Threat' is the feature directorial debut from William Woods, which he also wrote. After an astrophysicist (Mark O’Brien) makes a shocking discovery, he and his family (Constance Wu, Callista Crowe, Isaac Smelcer-Zhang) are chased through the countryside by an anonymous pursuer. Once armed with the reality of what’s going on, the family is forced to make a decision that will alter the future of humanity.
'Moana (2026)' is the feature directorial debut from Thomas Kail, and written by Jared Bush & Dana Ledoux Miller. A live-action adaptation of Disney Animation's 2016 film. Teenage Moana (Catherine Laga'aia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with infamous demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
'Evil Dead Burn' is directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who co-wrote with Florent Bernard. After the loss of her husband (George Pullar as William Price), a woman (Souheila Yacoub) seeks solace with her in-laws (Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, Erroll Shand, Maude Davey). As one by one they transform into deadites, she comes to discover that the vows she took in life - survive even in death.
