So, yeah, ‘Part TWO’ of @EchoChamberFP, this week came out of left field!!!
Ol Tom Brumpton hit me up with a short film hitting a run of Festival dates, and needing a space to shine. A REALLY different thing with this one, is it’s highlighting Sami culture, but in a really understated way. We made it work, cause that’s what the podcast is. But also, the exploration of culture is always interesting. And having the brother & sister creative team on hand to fill in cultural blanks. As well as exspue their storytelling foballs, working rituals, filmmaking connective tissue and so much more. Which is even more impressive when English isn’t their first language!!!
'Borderline (aka 'På Grensa')' is directed by Johannes Vang, who co-wrote with Wilhelmina Silba. A Norwegian customs officer (Øystein Martinsen), a Finnish poacher (Sverre Porsanger), and a mysterious Swedish woman (Ayla Gáren Audhild P. Nutti) meet at the border between their homelands, becoming entangled in a conflict over laws, language, and prejudice.

Johannes Vang is a Sámi activist and filmmaker from Northern Norway whose prolific output belies his age. With over 10 directing credits, including the documentaries "Red-Shaded Green" and "My Ferrytale", and the narratives "Last Tram" and "Áhčči - Dad", and 20 production credits to his name, Vang has quickly established himself as a vital voice in Indigenous cinema. His work is defined by a deep commitment to the Sámi language and identity, weaving together historical narratives with contemporary realities.
A favourite among festival audiences, Vang’s films have toured extensively, with over 40 screenings across Norway and Finland in 2025 alone. His documentary, “For Our Rights”, achieved both a national broadcast and a physical release. His work has been showcased at prestigious international venues including the Seattle International Film Festival, ImagineNATIVE, and Māoriland.

Wilhelmina Silba is a Sámi-Kven screenwriter passionate about crafting compelling narratives that seamlessly weave Sámi and Kven culture, language, and everyday life into an organic and accessible part of the narrative for a broader audience. Aurinko Film is a collective of Sámi filmmakers telling the stories of the Sámi people through film, both documentary and fiction. The films mostly take on the topics of Sámi culture, language and identity.
