Yes, people, @EchoChamberFP is back with more 'Film Festival' coverage, and this time we're headed to Houston!!!

The wonderful Cynthia Amsden is to thank for our sojourn to the 'Huston Underwater Film Festival (HUFF)', where we look at TWO short form documentaries which explore completely different aspects of the ocean. THEN, we get to conversate with the man who has committed his life to bringing the wonders beneath the waves to those who haven't experienced their joy in person. We get his origin story, what drives his desire to tell these stories, the challenges, the learning and evolution. Plus so much more, this is one you won't want to put down!!!

'Hidden' is written & directed by David Vazquez Farrus. HIDDEN reminds us that the health of our planet often rests on the shoulders of its most fragile and overlooked creatures magnifying the "unseen”. Vazquez plunges into the microscopic wonders of the reef, revealing a world of incredible macro life that exists just beyond the naked eye. Through high-definition cinematography, the film captures the intricate beauty and alien-like complexity of the ocean’s smallest inhabitants.

'Glad to Meet You' is written & directed by David Vazquez Farrus. A deeply personal exploration of a life reshaped by the sea, Glad to Meet You documents the director’s profound connection with the ocean. From his decade as a dive instructor to the transformative silence of the 2020 lockdown, the film serves as a visual letter of gratitude. It explores how the rhythmic pulse of the underwater world offers healing and purpose, tracing a journey of self-discovery that transformed a guide into an advocate for the deep.

David Vazquez Farrus

Writer, Director, Producer, Editor, Cinematographer, Underwater videographer, Master Diving Guide

David Vazquez Farrus is a filmmaker and conservationist with over 15 years of experience in the marine world. Originally a professional diving instructor and founder of DPM Diving in Nusa Penida, Indonesia, David’s career took a transformative turn during the 2020 global lockdown. With the diving industry on pause, he transitioned from a guide to a self-taught cinematographer, mastering the technical complexities of underwater filming from scratch. His work focuses on the intersection of beauty, fragility, and protection, using high-definition visual storytelling to advocate for marine ecosystems. To date, his directing credits include Hidden, Glad to Meet You, The Sacred Dance and the upcoming Palauan Pledge. David’s unique perspective, moving from a business owner to a "human tripod" in the high-surge currents of Indonesia, allows him to capture the ocean’s rawest moments. His mission is to bridge the gap between the surface and the sea, turning his thousands of hours underwater into a visual defense for a silent world. Based in Indonesia, he continues to document the evolving life of the reefs, aiming to move audiences from simple admiration to active environmental advocacy.
